Does Open Graph Title and SEO Title Being Different Affect CTR?

In this experiment, we created the content in the OG title and <title> tag differently on a few pages on our website. We wanted to observe whether this difference would affect the titles generated by Google on the SERP and improve our CTR rates.

Problem

Low CTR rates.

Entry

Click-through rates that are below 10%.

Method

Replacing the content in the "og:title" and "title" tags.

Results

There was a slight difference in CTR rates, albeit in percentage terms. However, sufficient data could not be obtained to reach a definitive conclusion.

Does Having Different Open Graph Title and SEO Title Affect CTR?

We tried it, we achieved some positive improvements, let's share it with you.

In SEO studies, the CTR metric is as important as our click-through rates. So what can be done to increase CTR?

We did an experiment for this. In this experiment, we made our og:title tag, one of our Open Graph tags, which is one of our meta tags, and the general Title tag of the page different from each other and waited 28 days.

We tried this change for 3 pages;

  • After 28 days, we could not get a CTR increase on all 3 pages,
  • There was no positive change in our click-through numbers,
  • We also got indexed for more keywords and therefore our average position value increased.
  • There was an improvement in our impression numbers on some of our pages.
  • Apart from that, no SEO work was done on the sites. And I should add that there was an increase across the site.
